GK – Unai Simon (Spain)
When a goalkeeper concedes just one goal at a tournament, it is only right to pick them. Amazingly, Simon faced only 10 shots on target at World Cup 2026, but always performed when called upon – and was key to Spain’s build-up play from the back.
RB – Pedro Porro (Spain)
After a tough season at Tottenham, Porro enjoyed a fabulous World Cup. Not only was he solid in defence, he delivered key moments in attack. Porro scored against Austria in the Round of 32 and netted again in the 2-0 semi-final victory over France. A fantastic all-round campaign from a very talented full-back.
CB – Aymeric Laporte (Spain)
It is almost frustrating that Laporte is playing in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr, as he is quite clearly still one of the world’s best centre-backs. He marshalled Spain’s defence expertly throughout World Cup 2026 and it will be interesting to see whether top clubs in Europe look to bring him back to the continent this summer.
CB – Pau Cubarsi (Spain)
Barcelona’s teenage sensation was deservedly named the Young Player of the Tournament thanks to his assured displays at the back. A fantastic defender with a great passing range and maturity way beyond the years on his birth certificate, the sky really is the limit for Cubarsi.
LB – Marc Cucurella (Spain)
Arguably the best left-back in the world right now, Cucurella’s rise on the international stage over the last two years or so really has been something to behold. You get the feeling he is going to thrive at Real Madrid in 2026-27.
CM – Rodri (Spain)
Ballon d’Or winner Rodri added another individual accolade to his cabinet in the form of the World Cup Golden Ball, or the Player of the Tournament award. Spain’s midfield conductor barely put a foot wrong, dismantling opposing teams with composure, elite intelligence and calm passing. Rodri is now right up there with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in terms of all-time greats.
CM – Enzo Fernandez (Argentina)
Fernandez’s red card in the final tarnished his tournament somewhat, though the Chelsea man still delivered plenty of big moments for his country. From the dramatic late winner vs Egypt to the crucial equaliser against England in the semi-finals, Fernandez can certainly be proud of his overall efforts.
CAM – Jude Bellingham (England)
Bellingham’s tally of seven goals is the most by an Englishman at a single edition of the World Cup, quite the achievement. Braces against Mexico and Norway in the knockout stage highlighted his big-game genes, and Bellingham is well on the way to being recognised as the finest footballer to don the Three Lions jersey.
FWD – Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Eight goals and four assists for arguably the greatest footballer who has ever lived, it was quite the tournament from Argentina skipper Messi. The 39-year-old rolled back the years in style and if this was the last time we see him on the World Cup stage, it was quite the ride!
FWD – Erling Haaland (Norway)
Harry Kane enjoyed a brilliant World Cup campaign, but we just cannot ignore Haaland here. Norway’s main man excelled in his first major international tournament, scoring seven goals in five appearances – including a match-winning brace vs Brazil in the Round of 16.
FWD – Kylian Mbappe (France)
Mbappe finished on 10 goals at World Cup 2026, winning a second consecutive Golden Boot and claiming the all-time scoring record in the process. France’s captain is on 22 strikes overall, and he will surely break the 30 barrier in his distinguished career.
