Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has told NetBet that he believes Youri Tielemans will be the top Premier League signing of the season after the Belgian star arrived at the Red Devils from Aston Villa for a fee of £35 million.
Tielemans has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the English top flight over recent seasons, and played a key role in Aston Villa’s 2025-26 Europa League success. The 29-year-old even scored in the 3-0 victory over Freiburg in the final.
The midfield conductor also starred for Belgium at World Cup 2026, netting two goals in five matches as Rudi Garcia’s side reached the quarter-final stage.
But now the focus for Tielemans is firmly on making his mark at Old Trafford under the tutelage of Michael Carrick, something which ex-United ace Sharpe believes he will achieve in typically stylish fashion.

Sharpe told football betting site NetBet: “Tielemans has got to be one of the signings of the season for me. To prise him away from Aston Villa for £35m is absolutely unbelievable.
“Especially when you consider his experience, ability, knowledge, and how he plays. I really believe he is going to be the signing of the season.
“It is clever thinking from Michael Carrick and INEOS; they will have had a good shopping list at the end of last season. As a group they will have realised that new players coming in from different leagues can be hit and miss. The Premier League is far more physical than anywhere else in Europe, and it takes a lot of settling in.
“It’s not just on the pitch, it’s off it too with housing, getting your bearing, bringing your family over. So, there are loads of factors that impact a player settling in. If you’ve got a player who played in the Premier League for a number of years, it makes that transition so much easier.”
